Indoor Golf Bridges the Gap for Disabled Golfers

Indoor Golf Bridges the Gap for Disabled Golfers

With over 250 golf courses in Phoenix and a few of them known as the world's best golf destinations, you would think that almost everyone has the opportunity to golf.  Not so for the disabled.

For the most part, wheelchairs are not allowed on a course and the course can be a little challenging for an amputee or those with other physical challenges.

On Wednesday, February 16th from 5:30-8:30pm, CrossWoods Indoor Golf will hold a special night for the disabled & physically challenged to explore & experience the cutting edge technology of Indoor Golf Simulators.

For Rod Horne who was injured in an accident 25 years ago, and has been in a wheelchair since, CrossWoods allows him, and others with disabilities, to add Golf to the sports that he can enjoy along with tennis, skiing, rowing and basketball. “In Phoenix all you hear about is Golf so how do you think it feels when so many of your friends talk about golfing with their buddies but we can't go.” said Horne, “The disabled don’t want to be excluded or separate from the rest of the world and Crosswoods is bridging that gap!" Rod is the owner of Full Circle Disabled Sports LLC, a company which allows people with disabilities to experience different types of sports.

Yar Golf, an Arizona company will be supporting this worthwhile event. Yar Golf specifically engineers Putters for people with disabilities and has created a niche putter that marks the ball, picks it up from the green and from inside the hole, and is so well designed and balanced it offers superior stability with one or two hands. Yar Golf will be demonstrating their Putter at the event and giving attendees the opportunity to win a custom fitted putter.

Peter Longo, a world renowned golf trick artist is recognized as one of the world's leading authorities on the subject of disabled golf and is Yar Golf’s sole advisory technician in the field of Adaptive Golf will also attend the event to assist attendees. “Many disabled people can't realistically play on a course.” says Longo, “But the simulators give them a very close experience to real golf, without the physical or pace demands of the course.”

Audrey Washington of ALW Massage specializing in Disabilities Massage Therapy will also be at the event giving free massages to all participants. “Some disabled are unable to get onto the massage table” Audrey said “And I’m able to work with them in their chairs and even in the comfort of their own home if needed. They have different challenges than others and it’s great that I’m able to help relieve some of their stiffness and sore muscles.”

The cost for disabled to experience indoor golf at the event on Feb 16th is just $10. CrossWoods will also be taking signups for those who would like to sign up for a new Disabled Golf League that will be launched in March.
